Holiday Albums You Should Be Bumpin' Right Now

11/30/2016

'Tis the season for Holiday music. Radio stations across the nation have flipped their format to play 24 hours of Holiday music from Thanksgiving to Christmas Day and if you aren’t in the spirit yet then this list of Holiday albums you should be bumpin’ will surely do the trick!

Elvis’ Christmas Album – Elvis Presley.  The first ever Christmas album by the King, originally released in 1957, this album was still the best selling Holiday album according to Billboard last year. It would be surprising if that still isn’t the case. This album is comprised of eight Christmas songs and four gospel songs. You only have time to listen to one song? Play “Blue Christmas”, though there are plenty of versions of this song the King’s take has an extra sadness about it.

Picture
A Charlie Brown Christmas – Vince Guaraldi Trio. Maybe you won’t necessarily “bump” this but if it is smooth jazz you are looking for, than light a fire, heat up some hot chocolate and relax as the instrumentals you know and love from the classic Peanuts special of the same name fill the room. You only have time to listen to one song? Play “Christmas Time is Here”. The soundtrack offers this classic in instrumental or vocal version, you can’t go wrong either way.

Picture
Merry Christmas – Mariah Carey.  Mariah Carey’s first Holiday album is #7 on the Best-Selling Christmas/Holiday albums list. With classics like “Silent Night”, and “Joy to the World” this album is a joy from track 1 to 10. You only have time to listen to one song? Play “All I Want for Christmas is You”. This original has been remade by Michael Bublé, Lady Antebellum, and more and now sits atop Billboards’ Holiday 100 for the 21st week. Carey’s song has been at number 1 on this chart 21 of the 26 weeks since Billboard introduced it in 2011.

Picture
In 1998 a little known boy-band released this gem of a Holiday album mixed with classics such as “The Christmas Song”, “The First Noel” and originals like “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays”, “Under My Tree”. Selling over 4 million copies worldwide this has become a classic among those who were tweens when it was first released. You only have time to listen to one song? While all 14 tracks are worth a listen, play "Merry Christmas, Happily Holidays" and check out the video as the boys are recruited to fill in for a sick Santa by Gary Oldman. The late 90’s were a strange time what can I say?

Picture
A Very Decent Christmas – Major Lazer. If there ever was a Holiday album that could be played in the club, this is it. Chock full of holiday beat drops and a remix of “Santa Clause is coming to Town” this one might not be best to play for Grandma, unless Grandma likes EDM. The label, founded by Major Lazer member, Diplo released their first Holiday compilation back in 2013. You only have time to listen to one song? Play “Christmas Trees” the Holiday song by Major Lazer feat. Protoje, sure to bring a bit reggae to your Holiday this season.

After the trophy was debuted at the Fan Midway at Ticket Galaxy’s replica Victory Lane, Saturday saw the first ever Ticket Galaxy 200 trophy go to Kyle Busch. This victory marked his 10th win in a NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.

A few hours before the celebration, the day started with Arizona born, Harlem Globetrotter, Buckets entertaining drivers and fans alike with his impressive basketball skills. He would later wave the green flag to signify the start of the race. Having Buckets join in the Ticket Galaxy 200 celebration was extra special as Ticket Galaxy is the official secondary ticket partner of the Original Harlem Globetrotters.

Olympic medalist, Brady Ellison was also on-hand as the Grand Marshall to shout “Gentleman, start your engines”. After an eventful race that saw six cautions, Kyle Busch drove away with the victory.

Ticket Galaxy’s president, Steve Kobelski presented the Ticket Galaxy 200 trophy to Kyle at Victory Lane, after the celebratory “Gatorade Shower” and fireworks. Kyle and his crew donned Ticket Galaxy 200 hats as photographers snapped away.

#TBT: First Concerts - Part Four

11/10/2016

All good things must come to an end and this is part four of our four-part series, Throwback Thursday: First Concerts.

Today we hear from two Ticket Galaxy employees who each shared their first concert experience with a very important man in their life, their dad!

“My first concert was Mark Knopfler at Rosemont Theatre when I was 15.  I went with my dad, because we share a lot of same tastes in music.  It’s a fond memory I’ll never forget!” – Ashley

“My father wouldn’t allow me to go to any concert until I saw KISS live. “You can’t see the rest until you’ve seen the best” he always used to say. So when they came around, we hiked it up to Boston to see them at the Fleet Center (TD Bank Arena now) Thanksgiving eve, with Aerosmith. We didn’t have a turkey that year, and the side dishes were certainly lacking, but I wouldn’t have traded it for the world!” – Doug

We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into getting to know our employees better. Be sure to check out Part One, Two and Three.

Doug's Garbage Time

Let’s talk about Sports. Ticket Galaxy not only does a great job providing inventory for sold out concerts and events, but we also have a superb inventory across all price levels for sporting events too!

In America, we seem to be focused on the big four sports: Baseball, Football, Basketball and Hockey. That gives you some great options to go out year round, but in this series, we’re going to take a look at some other pastimes that are extremely well known in other countries. We’re going to start with Cricket.

“The bowler approached the wicket at a lope, a trot, and then a run. He suddenly exploded in a flurry of arms and legs, out of which flew a ball.”
― Douglas Adams, Life, the Universe and Everything

Cricket, the exceptionally polite sport that just effervesces Britishness has been around for centuries. It’s definitely from the 16th century with some (probably more than not) dubious claims supporting a date around 1301 AD. That’s phenomenal, but sports around here aren’t necessarily played due to history. I’ve elected to attempt to take a gander and actually learn how the game is played.

For an in depth look into Cricket, Click Here.
